5 Tips for Shooting Rad Firework Photos with Your Phone

photojojo:

1. Stabilize, use a stand or a Glif with a tripod

2. Lock your focus and exposure, double-tap your iPhone screen in the camera to lock exposure and focus (Androiders, check your phone’s directions on how to do this)

3. Use a long exposure app (like Slow Shutter Cam) and set to 1 to 2…

4. Use a timer or remote to reduce camera-shake

5. Experiment with lenses and apps! Try double exposures with apps like Image Blender or  use a Telephoto Cell Lens to get up close shots.

Major apologies and a promise!

Dear CyberCultureShock fans,

I apologize for being away. I’ve had no WiFi or cell service for the past week. I had no way to post articles or even communicate with the outside world, so I’m sorry for the lack of updates.

That being said, today we’re going to pick up with the articles and everything else will be on schedule! Thank you so much, guys, for being so patient, and let’s get back to social media news!

Tumblr now offers Pinned posts for $5

bitshare:

Tumblr users may have noticed a somewhat annoying little red pin on their Dashboard a few minutes ago. If you click the red pin, it goes away - yay! - but wait - it returns if you leave the dash and come back, or refresh the page. It’s a Pinned post, which is a new way that Tumblr is offering users to highlight their posts to get more exposure.

On setting up Youtube Live with Gplus

tymkrs:

So the latest and coolest thing I think people are /starting/ to realize, but don’t fully know, is that Youtube Live is now available for everyone (as far as I am aware).  It used to be that you had to be a super high-falootin’ Youtube Partner in order to get the ability to use Youtube Live.  And there used to be settings where you had to check that, yes, I want to be live!

Welp, now it’s all open!  Using Google Plus, you can stream live to your Youtube account.  When the live stream is done, the entire stream will upload as a video with any comments from Google Plus uploading as comments.  But before everything starts, you have to make sure that the email account for your Google Plus is the same as the email account for the youtube account.

But once you make sure you have that, you can start a hang out, and when starting up a hangout, you’ll get an option to make it go live to Youtube: “Enable Hangout on air”.  And then a window might pop up saying:

“Hangouts On Air will use your YouTube channel. This video will be broadcast both on your Google+ stream (Tymkrs) and on your YouTube channel (Tymkrs).”

And I haven’t used hangouts before today, but there’s this neat app that allows you to put lower thirds too!  Also, the people who you hang out with have to be in a common circle (as far as I’m aware).  Anyway, worth checking out for those who make their own videos and would like to use Youtube Live instead of Ustream!

We noticed that with our set up, the quality was less clear than Ustream, and the stream shows the Google Hangout white background/border as well as the little screen windows on the bottom.  Even when we were streaming on our own or “hanging out” on our own, we couldn’t get rid of this.  Worth knowing, just in case.  And it also seems that when a viewer pauses it, when they start playing it again, it picks up from where they left off instead of the current location.

Facebook: 100 petabytes becomes exabytes not too far off in the future

bitshare:

Many people might know what a computer “byte” is, considering computers and data are so commonplace now verses 10 years ago. For those that don’t know, a single byte is one unit of measure in computers. One byte equates to a single character. For example the letter “A” typed out is one byte of data. It takes 1024 bytes to make up one Kilobyte. For example, two kilobytes would be equal to a one page typewritten document. As you get higher up in the volume of data, you move on to megabytes, gigabytes, terabytes, petabytes and exabytes.

The Facebook Problem.

creativedeficit:

I’ve had a Facebook since it was called The Facebook.  Back then only college students were allowed to set up an account, everyone else had to be invited by a collge students.  My friends older brother invited me and in October 2005, I was officially on Facebook.  It’s hard to remember what I did on FB back then.  I remember I had to check my email and click on the link whenever someone wrote on my wall or commented on a photo.  There was no news feed or notifications.  I really don’t rmember much about Facebook from the first few years I was a user.  Over time, the social network, like everything else, has evolved.  It has implemented changes, some of which were greeted with cheers (who doesn’t like getting a red notification bubble?), while others were greeted by geers (until they sorted out the news feed, it was a privacy nightmare) but Facebook has never really lost popularity.

Until now.

I can safely say, I’m sick of Facebook.  I am sick of the drama that it creates, I’m sick of the powers that be changing settings without telling users and I’m sick of having to spend hours (seriously, hours) every few months changing my privacy settings back to what they were before FB rolled out their newest update.  But unfortunately, if I want to know anything, I have to stay on Facebook.

I say that I have to stay on FB because so often the conversation between people finds it’s way to things that people have seen on the social network site.  “Did you see what Johnny put on Facebook?!?”, “Did you see that picture that Jane set has her default?”.  Without having an account, we cannot engage in these conversations with our peers.  Yeah I know, someone is going  to say that we need to learn how to communicate better.  I don’t disagree.  But Facebook isn’t a replacement for communication.  It is a tool to KEEP us communicating. Let’s be real here, we talk about what people put on their page.  It’s life.  Without being able to see it for yourself, you get left out of discussions.  Even if it is just careless gossip, you’re still left out.

Facebook is in theory a great network.  It allows people to connect with others who are both near and far away.  I can’t count how many times I have found friends from elementary school, or that random family member who I’m not actually sure how I’m related to, on Facebook.  It’s a great tool for keeping up with the goings on of people that you don’t talk to on a regular basis.  Unfortunately Facebook strayed away from their original format, and original purpose long ago.

This year, during finals, I deactivated my Facebook account.  It was down for probably 3 weeks, and it was great.  I loved it.  My friends on the other hand didn’t.  They had to explain everything to me, and when they were talking about a picture they’d seen, someone had to find the picture to show me.  It was really inconvenient for them.  It’s a tough spot to be in, wanting to disconnect, but literally being unable to.  Maybe one day, I’ll get the courage to disconnect for good.  It would be weird at first but I think I’d get used to it.

This is fascinating! Even with all of FaceBook’s annoyances, could you ever permanently quit FaceBook? Do you think it’s possible?
